Saturday showed a good battle of fixtures for the second round robin of the season.

Teams started the second cycle hard and with a lot of trainings, fixtures, and teamwork under their belts. It was a slow start to the season due to Covid-19 delays, however individual skill, fitness and team play is being played at a higher level each week.

Mosgiel AFC were back at home, hosting the unbeaten Dunedin Tech AFC. Tech came away with a 5-0 win; the defensive line not letting any goals against.

Mosgiel head coach Craig Lyall said in the pre-match he discussed with the team that he wanted them to play a lot more compact.

"I told the team that if they got the chance, to hit them on the counter.. which they did very well." said Lyall.

"Ella did her job as defensive midfielder supurbly, and was our player of the day."

He gives credit to Tech for playing great as usual, but he is happy with the good shift put in by Mosgiel.

"It was a big improvement from our last game against Tech, and we will just keep working on things going forward. Tech is the standard we need to get to."

Otago University A's hosted Otago University B's at the Turf. Both teams train at the turf, and have great communication, so it was to be a game of team work and putting training drills into action.

Head coach of Uni A's, Stuart Moffatt was happy with Saturday's performance.

"We worked hard in training this week, based on the video from the Tech game.

"We are back to the drawing board and this result is a pointer that we may be on the right track. We are looking to further improve from each game this time round."

Queenstown had a home game hosting Roslyn Wakari at a sunny events centre. Roslyn came away with a 5-1 win, with two long range goals and a penalty in the first half putting Queenstown in trouble.

"Roslyn had another long shot five minutes into the second half, and it was all over." said Queenstown head coach Mark Ford.

"The Queenstown girls battled to the end, pulling one back through in the form of Nieve Collin.

"We made the second half a contest, before Roslyn slotted in their fifth goal of the match.

"We were not without our chances, but were well beaten on the day, with Roslyn securing those three points."

Roslyn Wakari head coach Hamish Philip agreed it was; "a game for the highlight reel, with screamers everywhere!"

Philip said it was a great game to come away with points, and see the team continue their form.

Green Island AFC had the bye, joining back in round-9 on Friday at the Turf against Dunedin Technical.
