
Roslyn Wakari v Queenstown Rovers
The match had two contrasting styles of play with Queenstown playing a possession based game whilst Roslyn were exerting a strong pressing game with the emphasis on getting the ball forward as early as possible to the strong running of Tennesse Kinghorn and the first real chance falls to Kinghorn when a ball over the top see's him onside and his strong shot forces a fine save from Daniel Bocatios .
Queenstown have a good chance with Carlos Herrmann however his shot is straight Roslyn keeper Tom Stevens
The break through comes 3 minutes into time added on before half time when Roslyns Kinghorn was fouled on the edge of the box and the resultant free kick from Luke Clissold was bent over the wall and despite Bocatios getting a hand to was not able to keep it out.
Queenstown start the second half stonger with skipper Thomas Mills standing out and equalise on 59 minutes when a penalty is awarded following Luke Williams handball and Herrmann scores from the spot.
The match starts to open up and Queenstown exploit the space and went ahead when Jan Kumar found himself inside the box and with his back to goal, spun and placed his shot with power -beating Stevens at the near post. Roslyn responded and with one touch interplays got in behind Queenstowns defence and the pressure paid off when Michael Sannum pushed forward and buried his shot to equalise with 8 minutes left. In a final push for a winner, Roslyn peppered the Queenstown defence with a number of corners and crosses into the box despite a few penalty appeals Bocatios remained resolute to ensure the points were shared in a 2-2 draw.
Caversham v Otago University
University were much more clinical far in the final third of the pitch and ran out 4-1 winners at Hancock Park.
The first half was a free-flowing affair with few genuine scoring opportunities and it took until the 38th minute when University counter-attacked and Dominic Scahill showed a deft touch to flick the ball over Caversham keeper Liam Little to open the scoring.
The students made it 2-0 early in the second half when Oban Hawkins long range shot in the 51st minute beat Little.
And when Universitys Ben Stanley rifled one in from the edge of the box 6 minutes later the students were in the driving seat.
Tom Stewart made it 4-0 from the penalty spot on 65 minutes. Cavershams Max Johnston scored a last minute consolation goal to see the students claim their 3rd win with Oban Hawkins looking full of class and patience.
Green Island v Wanaka
The opening period had Wanaka boss the possession as Green Island were content to sit deep and counter attack with Matt Brazier and It was Brazier who earned a penalty in the 17th min when he went down in the box in a challenge with Thomas Van Hees. Tom Milton stepped up and put his shot past Lukas Schafer
Wanaka had their first clear shots at goal when Everton Rossi and then Paul Hodgson both shot narrowly wide in the 18th and 19th minutes.
Brazier went close to scoring but Schafer made a good save to deny him.
Green Island scored again in the 23rd minute when Brazier won a header from a long clearance ,the ball was then played to Eddie Wilkinson who crossed to Liam Carrington he out smarted a Wanaka defender with a classy drag back and cooly finished. into the bottom left corner .
Wanaka created their best chance of the half in the 44th minute when they counter attacked from a corner and Adam Hewson squared the ball across goal for Hodgson but his first time shot was saved by the o-rushing Christian Firth.
2 minutes into the 2nd half and a long ball by Green Island into Wanakas goal box sees Schafer diving at the feet of Brazier to clear the danger , the whistle blows for a free kick to Wanaka and the play is stopped as the young keeper is unmoved on the floor injured. However the linesman intervenes and after a discussion the referee awards a penalty to Green Island.
Tom Milton steps up to score again and its 3-0 with 43 minutes left.
Milton scores late on when following a solo run beating 3 players he then chips the goal keeer to claim his hat trick and the 4-0 victory continues Green Islands 100% start to the season.
Dunedin Tech v Northern
Tech ran out 3.0 victors when Thomas Petersen scored after 31minutes and goals in the second half from Chris Boomer and Ash Watson gave Techs its second win of the season.
