Women’s Development Officer Tessa Nicol & NZ U20 Football Fern Sammy Murrell joined Luis, Jack & the Southland team at Invercargill’s ILT Football Turf last week for a free girls-only football session for girls aged 7-16.

This was a great opportunity for Southland’s up-and-coming females to get up close with two of the Federation’s Football Ferns who were in town to help promote the game to more females.

Of particular note was young Harvey, pictured with Sammy. Harvey recently did a Brownies project on her favourite football player, NZU20 Football Fern Sammy Murrell, a few months ago, so she was delighted to meet Sammy in person!

It goes to show how important local heroes are in the game – she was so star struck when she met Sam!
