
The University of Otago men's team are the Champions of the Tertiary Futsal Championships with the women's team finishing 4th and narrowly missing out on a top three spot by goal difference.
The Championships took place over last four days at Palmerston North’s Central Energy Trust Arena with each side playing each other once.The University of Otago claimed the men’s title, finishing ahead of University of Canterbury on goal difference. The high-scoring side amassed a huge 63 goals across their six matches with18 goals more than second placed top scorers University of Waikato. The men's side triumphed in 5 of their matches and conceded less goals than any other side with only ten getting past the Otago defence.
In the women’s competition, University of Canterbury left Palmerston North as winners after also beating the team in second, Victoria University of Wellington, on goal difference. The University of Otago women's team won three out of their six matches including a 4-0 victory over the University of Waikato.
The University of Otago took two out of three Player Awards in the men's competition, with Daniel Robinson winning the Golden Gloves and Tim O’Farrell winning the MVP award. The University of Canterbury took all three of the Player Awards in the women's competition.
