Football South will be hosting a Girls Only Year 5/6 Futsal Festival on Thursday the 9th of November at the Dunedin Edgar Centre. Schools are invited to enter team(s) of year 5/6 girls to try futsal in a fun and safe environment – no previous playing experience necessary! In fact, we are encouraging those that have never played futsal or football to get involved and have a go with their friends. Primary schools from all around Otago will be invited to participate so that girls have an opportunity to compete and have fun with other girls from different schools.
This is to raise awareness around the importance of having girls playing and participating in sport. The tournament will be about fun and participation, so there will be no trophies, medals or placings. Instead, there will be spot prizes around sportsmanship, best trick, best-dressed team and other areas. We want to avoid this festival being based around winning.
Has Your School Entered a Team?
Have a talk to your teachers to find out if your school has entered a team – and if not, ask them to!
First Time Playing Futsal?
No worries! If your school hasn’t experienced Futsal before, then the school can contact Tessa at Football South who can arrange a one-off Futsal/Football session for the teams involved in the festival, or to anyone that is wanting to have a go – boys and girls.
