Following earlier government announcements Football South can confirm the current advice around competitions and trainings in our Federation.
The region has moved to Level-2 (currently until Friday), which means that it’s safe for sport to go ahead within certain guidelines and limits as detailed here.
As such, all competitive football and futsal will continue whilst we remain under level 2. We are considering some centralised junior football events (such as Fun Football at Kensington Oval in Dunedin), and will confirm decisions around these in the next day or so. Girls and Boys secondary schools competitions will go ahead this week.
The following must be in place and this is a joint member, club and Federation responsibility:
- Gatherings are below 100 people per field, with fields being socially distanced from each other
- Members observe social distancing where possible
- Members observe good hygiene practices including washing hands, equipment, covering coughs – wearing masks is recommended if possible
- Please ensure you are registered in COMET and use IDMe to log contact tracing information at fields and venues
- If you are unwell, please stay home and seek advice about getting a test
Our members’ health and wellbeing is the most important thing, so we are monitoring the situation closely and can react quickly and as needed. We have prepared well for this alongside our clubs, Federations and New Zealand Football, so there is a clear ‘playbook’ in place for handling the situation.
Detailed information on the Level 2 guidelines, hygiene information and contact tracing has been resent to all our clubs as a reminder, and is available via our website here:
Please get in touch with your club or Football South if you have any concerns or questions.
Regards, the Football South team
