An enthusiastic group of referees from South Canterbury (pictured above) meet at Basil Arthur Park on Sunday to prepare for 2010 season, with Otago referees meeting at the Caledonian on Saturday.

It was another weekend for the "referee traveling show" with Referee Development Officer Chris Boyd and senior NZFC referee Dave Langley presenting coaching clincs for referees at the Caledonian and Sir Basil Arthur Park.

To encourage more local referees to attend coaching courses and fitness tests it was decided to meet referees on their home grounds this year in pre-season coaching. In the last weekend of February pre-season coaching and fitness tests were held in Invercargill also.

The coaching courses have covered changes to the Laws of the Game for 2010, match analysis, and referee positioning. There is big interest throughout the federation in refereeing and it is hoped to run more courses to attract recruits.

The next Introductory Referee Course is at the Caledonian on Tuesday, 9th March at 6.30pm and anyone interested is asked to contact RDO Chris Boyd and register.
