A crowd of nearly 800 English Park in Christchurch saw the local side edge out Otago to complete a double over their southern rivals for the season.

Canterbury United can seal a place in the play-offs if they beat Hawkes Bay next weekend in a catch-up game, while Otago United will likely need to win its final match at home against Manawatu on 13th March and hope other results go their way to make the play-offs.

The game on Sunday in Christchurch rarely reached great heights, with a scoreless first half although Otago did have the better for most of the half. Tom Lancaster opened the scoring for Christchurch in the 67th minute and sealed the game with a penalty in the 78th minute after a foul on Aaron Clapham who took the penalty kick.

In the National Youth League curtain-raiser, Canterbury United also defeated Otago United by 2-0.
