Otago United's youth squad conceded a goal in the 7th minute to Manawatu's Dwayne Blackett, and struck back just before half time with an equaliser from Jackson Rodecka.
Midway through the second half Sam Mepham put Otago United ahead before an own goal in the 77th minute sealed the 3-1 win. In other National Yough League games Canterbury United thrashed Team Wellington 6-1, Waikato beat Hawkes Bay 2-1, and Auckland City notched a 2-1 win over Auckland-Manukau.
All three NZFC games at the weekend ended in draws, with Canterbury in a 1-1 draw with league leader Auckland City, and fellow strugglers Hawkes Bay and manawtu fought out a 2-2 draw.
Ben Light in the 7th minute and Nathan Knox in the 17th minute gave Otago United an early 2-0 lead over Waikato at Carisbrook, but Michael Gwyther added 2 for Waikato in the 31st and 38th minute to level the scores. A penalty to Waikato seven minutes into the second half was brilliantly saved by goalkeepeer James Waggett, and the the game ended in a draw.
Otago United remains 3rd on the NZFC table, two points ahead of Canterbury United which has two games in hand.
