
Footballsouth is one of 7 federations established by New Zealand Football in 1999.
The formal entity is referred to as No 7 District Federation of New Zealand Football but is branded as Footballsouth (formerly Soccersouth).
Footballsouth encompasses four regions: South Canterbury, Otago, Central Otago and Southland, with many distinct areas within those regions.
There are some 93 affiliated clubs and schools within Footballsouth, representing almost 9,000 players and of course there are many thousands of coaches, referees, administrators and supporters.
Footballsouth employs a full-time General Manager and Competitions Co-ordinator, and part-time Finance Manager, Referee Development Officer, and Regional Development Officers in Central Otago and Southland, with a regional administrator in South Canterbury.
Footballsouth has a governing Board which is responsible for the overall growth and development of football across the federation. The 2009 Board comprises:
